Trekking

Wildlife, national parks and mountain ranges all figure into India's ecotourism market. The country's more than 400 reserves include Project Tiger reserves in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Kerala, home to tigers, leopards, wild boars, deer, sambars and antelope. Sunderbans National Park is a mangrove swamp of 54 islands, explorable only by boat. Kanha National Park was the setting for Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" and is lush with grasslands and bamboo and saal forests. Thrill-seekers and hikers will appreciate India's Himalayan mountains. Ecotourism thrives in Kerala, where visitors can birdwatch, beachcomb and visit tribal settlements.
